Castlegate Festival was a two day event celebrating the vibrancy and rich history of the Castlegate area, through exhibitions, workshops, tours and activities.
20th – 21st June 2015 / across Castlegate, Sheffield / in partnership with Arts Council England, Bank Street Arts, Sheffield City Council, The University of Sheffield, Yorkshire Artspace, AHRC
The festival took place across three venues, Castle House, Exchange Place Studios and Bank Street Arts, as well as out and about on the streets of Castlegate.
Live Works helped organise the festival and produced publicity material for the event. We also curated and installed an exhibition of work produced by Sheffield School of Architecture students over a year in Castlegate. 60 masters students worked in Castlegate in 2014/15 and produced extensive research and innovative design proposals for the future of the area. We also showed our ReMake Castlegate model, inviting visitors to help us build a vision for the area over the two days.
The exhibits provoked lively discussions about Castlegate with the 1000 members of the public who visited over the weekend. This event looks set to become a regular event in Sheffield city centre’s calendar.
Feedback from a festival participant:
“I think this event was a great success. It enabled organisations, institutions and individual practitioners to work in partnership together to deliver something of value to all partners and engage an audience/community in arts and culture in an ‘unexpected’ area of the city.”
